Ivan Korčok, born April 4, 1964, is a distinguished Slovak diplomat and politician, a former Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and a presidential candidate.
Korčok holds degrees from the University of Economics in Bratislava and the Institute of Diplomacy of the Faculty of Law at Comenius University in Bratislava.
Korčok’s diplomatic career began in the early1990s. In 2005 he was appointed Slovak Ambassador to Germany, serving until 2009. From 2009 to 2015, he was the Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the European Union, playing a significant role in representing Slovak interests within the EU during critical times of financial, eurozone and migration crisis, Brexit and Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In 2016, Korčok became State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and served as Ministre Délégue during the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He then served as the Slovak Ambassador to the United States from 2018 to 2020.
In 2020, Ivan Korčok was named Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
In 2024, Korčok ran for the office of the president of the Slovak Republic as an independent civic candidate. He successfully advanced to runoff election, gaining 47% of all votes and finishing second in the presidential race.
Ivan Korčok, currently without any party affiliation, is actively engaged in civic projects mainly focused on the young generation and the prevention of mass brain drain from Slovakia.
Based on his vast executive experience, his further activities include areas of foreign, security and European policy.
