Jozef Šuvada, MD, PhD, MPH, MBA, MSc, is a full Professor, physician, policy maker, and humanitarian worker with a background in pediatrics, pediatric oncology, public health, social medicine, infectious diseases, tropical medicine, and palliative care. With academic appointments at St. Elizabeth University of Public Health and Social Sciences in Slovakia, McMaster University in Canada, Makerere University and Christian University in Uganda, the University of Scranton, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the USA, Professor Šuvada has made significant contributions to global health, trauma care, social work, and public health. He is deeply involved in the development, and implementation of research methodologies and education focusing on humanitarian aid, migration health, trauma management, and evidence-based clinical guidelines. A key member of the Global Clinical Guidelines Development Team, he actively contributes to shaping international health policies and guidelines in infectious diseases, childhood health, crisis management, and biological safety and biological risk.
His commitment to global health advocacy is reflected in his roles as Slovakia’s representative in the WHO Executive Board and as the Ambassador at Large of Slovakia for Global Health. He also leads humanitarian projects in South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, and the Middle East, working with organizations such as Tropic Team, Doctors Without Borders and MSF to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Professor Šuvada’s work integrates his academic and clinical expertise with a profound dedication to creating a safer, more equitable world where no one is left behind.
