President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

Miloš Vystrčil was born on August 10, 1960, in Dačice and now lives in Telč, Czech Republic.

Throughout his career, he has held several important political and professional positions. He has been a Senator in the Czech Republic’s Parliament since 2010 and became the President of the Senate in 2020. Before that, from 2016 to 2020, he led the ODS Senate Caucus and chaired the Committee on Public Administration, Regional Development, and the Environment from 2014 to 2016.

Regionally, he has represented the Vysočina Region since 2000, serving as its Governor from 2004 to 2008 and as Statutory Deputy Governor from 2000 to 2004.

His local government work includes being a municipal representative for Telč since 1991, and he was the Mayor of Telč from 1998 to 2001.

In the field of education, he was an academic at the College of Polytechnics in Jihlava from 2009 to 2021 and taught at the Otokar Březina Grammar School and Secondary Vocational School in Telč from 2008 to 2009. He previously worked at the same grammar school from 1985 to 1998, where he was Deputy Headmaster from 1992 to 1998 and a teacher from 1985 to 1992.

He served in the military from 1984 to 1985.

In the Senate, his roles include Chair of the Committee on Agenda and Procedure and Chair of the Sub-Committee on Bestowing Decorations of the Committee on Agenda and Procedure. He is also a member of the Standing Senate Commission on the Constitution of the Czech Republic and Parliamentary Procedures.

A member of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) since 1991, he has served as its Deputy Chair from 2014 to 2022 and as Chair of the Regional Association of ODS in the Vysočina Region at various times.

He chairs Sdílení o. p. s., a mobile hospice, and is involved in other boards and committees.

He studied at Masaryk University in Brno, earning a Dr. rer. nat. degree from the Faculty of Science’s Mathematics and Physics Program in 1984, after attending Grammar School in Telč from 1975 to 1979.

He is married and has two daughters.
