Pål Jonson has been serving as the Minister for Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden since 2022. Before assuming this role, he was the Chair of the Committee on Defence in the Swedish Parliament from 2020 to 2022. Jonson joined the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) in 2016, where he has held various significant positions. His professional background is extensive, including serving as the Communications Director for the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association, and as a Political Advisor at the Ministry of Defence.
He has also worked as a Security policy analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, and was a visiting researcher at the NATO Defense College in Rome. In addition, he also served as the Secretary-General of the Swedish Atlantic Council. Jonson holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Policy from Georgetown University, a Master’s degree in European Policy from the College of Europe Bruges, and a PhD in War Studies from King’s College London.
